Just a ferry ride away from Split, it is said to be the sunniest island in Croatia and a true Mediterranean fairy-tale. In antiquity it was the main naval crossroads in the Adriatic; today, the paths of tireless party people cross those of many families in search of a great holiday. History has enriched Hvar with ancient houses of stone and Renaissance summer homes for the Croatian aristocracy. These things, together with its vast fields of lavender and pine forests, regularly place it on most beautiful islands lists all over the world. Visiting the local beaches and taking boat trips available from the port to neighboring uninhabited islands, should also be on the to do list.
